A Family Affair… Laura & Craig

Saturday, January 25th, 2020

Laura Sinnett got in contact looking for a wedding venue for her and fiancé Craig to get married in May 2019. The couple were newly engaged after having their second child only months before. When I first met Laura I couldn’t believe she had only just had a baby – she looked phenomenal!

One of the first things that musician Laura had discussed with me was that she had already provisionally booked her wedding band and that her venue and wedding date would have to work around the band Pa Pa Shandy and The Drams. After the couples visit to Òran Mór Laura emailed to say that they loved the venue and would like to book for Friday 31st of May 2019, which we had available and that the band were able to offer as well. Laura returned the following weekend to see the room set for a ceremony and brought along her mother and bridesmaids who also were delighted with our Auditorium.

The planning was well underway and quickly after securing their wedding date Laura booked florist Betty Bluebell to look after the floral décor for both ceremony and reception. The florist’s team provided a stunning floral arch as a backdrop for the end of the aisle, which tied in with Laura and her bridesmaid’s floral bouquets, and a large long and low runner for the top table. The couple also hired gold charger plates and large gold candelabras from Make Believe Events which were beautifully dressed with flowers as well.

In the October before the wedding Laura emailed to ask that she and Craig come in to meet with me to finalise all of their plans for the big day with some exciting news that they would be expecting their third child in the beginning of March, only two months before their wedding! This of course was putting a bit of pressure on timings therefore we made sure to schedule a menu tasting as soon as possible, only 3 weeks before Laura’s due date. It was even discussed that if baby was to arrive early that Craig may have to come to the menu tasting with someone else, which was a real shame as a night of complimentary food and wine is always a lovely date night for our couples. As Laura expected, baby Adele did make an appearance before her due date, which meant that Laura was actually able to take a night with Craig to enjoy their menu tasting together.

Bride Laura arrived on Great Western Road on the 31st of May 2019 in a vintage wedding car from White Diamond Wedding Cars, with her bridesmaid’s parents and children. Eldest child Eloise was dressed in a stunning flower girl dress from Crystal and Pearl Bridal and bridesmaids in beautiful bold blue dresses from True Bride, The Finer Detail.  Groom Craig, his groomsmen and son Alexander were all dressed in kilts from MacGregor and MacDuff with Laura in a lace white dress from Pronovias, Kavelle Couture.

The ceremony very much revolved around Laura, Craig and their children, and celebrant Hugh McGuiness made sure that this was completely obvious throughout.

After the ceremony the couple, family and friends enjoyed a glass of fizz and canapes. Laura had spent a lot of time on making sure the drinks reception space was decorated beautifully with photographs of the children, and plenty of Scottish treats alongside their four tiered cake from Rosewood Cakes which sat in front of the stained glass window. Guests were entertained by Saxophonist Sam Irvine while our team turned the room around, preparing for the reception before sitting down for speeches from Laura’s father, Groom Craig and his best man.

It was finally time for the couple to take to the dancefloor for their first dance and for Pa Pa Shandy and The Drams to look after the entertainment, and as usual they did not disappoint.

I really have to put it to Laura and Craig on how well they managed to plan their wedding at such a busy time in their life with little Adele on her way. There wasn’t one thing that was missed, with so many beautiful details on the day and most importantly with the biggest smiles on their faces from start to finish.

After the wedding I received a lovely email from Laura…

‘Thank you so much!!! We honestly had the best day ever! I don’t even know where to start when it comes to thanking you and the team at Oran Mór. It was just perfect from start to finish and we could not fault anything.

I can’t believe it’s all over. We are overwhelmed by it all. Thanks so much again! We are on cloud nine! Xxx’
