Cara and Grant

Tuesday, July 26th, 2022

In the midst of the second lockdown in February 2021, Cara Low contacted us to discuss the wedding packages available at Òran Mór for Spring 2022. After discussing our availability and package options the couple visited the venue for the first time in April 2021 as restrictions started to ease, fully masked and in a very quiet and empty Òran Mór. Cara and fiancé Grant loved our Auditorium and thought it was the perfect location for their wedding ceremony and reception for approximately 80 guests. After a second visit a few weeks later, the couple officially booked their wedding for Thursday 21st of April 2022.

‘We absolutely loved seeing the venue today, it really has given us a buzz and was also lovely too eventually meet you in person too. We’ve had a few more venue visits and still love Òran Mór and seem to keep comparing everywhere else to it.”

On the morning of Cara and Grant’s big day, Cara spent the morning getting ready at her parents with her bridesmaids and her glam squad Lidia Attino @ Volume Hair and  Dannika Channer Makeup & Nails. With the assistance from her bridesmaids, Cara was finally ready to slip into her stunning lacy dress from David’s Bridal, altered by Julie’s Alterations, floral bouquet by Flowers By Lesley  in hand and made her way to Òran Mór where Grant patiently awaited her arrival.

Cara arrived at Great Western Road in a crisp white stretch limo from Coopers Wedding Cars where she was greeted by our wedding team and humanist wedding celebrant Ali Kerr. After getting the bridal party in order Cara & her dad took to the aisle to Kiss Me by Kina Grannis, to meet her groom Grant who was stood at the end of the aisle accompanied by his groomsmen, all dressed in kilts from Kilts 4 U.

Cara & Grant were pronounced as officially married and exited the aisle to Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson and joined their guests at the bar for a glass of fizz and congratulations for the first time as Mr & Mrs McDade. After some mingling with their guests, the couple made their way to the Botanic Gardens with photography duo – and soon to be husband and wife – Corinne & Gary from Good Luck Wolf Photography.

The couple couldn’t have picked a better date if they tried as the sun was splitting the sky, making for a stunning couples shoot in the gardens and giving the perfect excuse to stop off for an ice cream on their way back to the venue.

At around 4.30pm the couple were welcomed back by their guests, followed by some speeches and a 3-course meal, starting with some traditional Haggis, Neeps & Tatties – the good old Scottish way.

After dinner the couple took to the dancefloor to cut their cake from award winning Jappacakes, followed by their first dance and an evening of dancing hosted by DJ Gerry Lyons.

We asked Cara & Grant what their favourite part of their wedding day was…

‘My favourite part of the wedding day was arriving at Òran Mór, seeing our vision come to life was amazing and then getting to see Grant standing smiling at me at the end of the aisle was perfect. Grant says his favourite part of our wedding day was the ceremony itself – our humanist got our story spot on, and everyone had the kindest things to say about her.’

Finally, we asked the new Mr & Mrs McDade, why they chose Òran Mór for their wedding venue, and they said…

‘Òran Mór was the 1st venue we viewed and after that nowhere else compared. I had my grad ball here in 2012 so we knew the service was great from that experience. The venue itself is a bit quirky and different so felt it suited us perfectly and after meeting Pauline and seeing how attentive and enthusiastic she was we knew we could trust her with making sure our big day was a stress-free occasion. No question or request was too much.’
