Debbie & Phil – The Perfect Venue for a Spring Scottish Wedding

Monday, November 25th, 2019

Nurse Deborah and consultant Phil met at work, which was all kept very hush hush at the start but fell in love very quickly. From the very initial enquiry in January 2018, Deborah Marshall had noted her and fiancé Phil’s ideal wedding date of Saturday 25th of May 2019! The couple visited the venue for a show round and after being sent a quote and further information on our packages I received the below message from the couple ‘We definitely want to book Òran Mór – it’s perfect for us’.

The following April, Debbie and her bridesmaids attended our Spring Wedding Fayre which was the perfect opportunity for the bride to show off her new wedding venue. At the wedding fayre Debbie met photographer Mark Wild, who was booked promptly after.

Mark Wild is one of my favourite photographers to work with for many reasons, he is not only fun, friendly and super relaxed to work with on the day of the wedding but his pictures are exceptional! In the last couple of years Mark has shot a lot in our venue, and he still manages to provide a completely unique wedding album for each couple who get married at Òran Mór. Mark also offers a pre wedding shoot to his couples which is a great opportunity for the couple and photographer to get to know each other, eradicating any nerves or camera anxiety before the big day.

Debbie and Phil really enjoyed planning their wedding and we always enjoyed a meeting to discuss all of their plans, which normally ran over as we couldn’t stop blabbering on and laughing. As I’ve mentioned before, my least favourite part of my job is having to email a bride and groom to tell them I would be missing their wedding day, luckily this doesn’t happen often but I did have to send said email to Deborah and Phil.

On the morning of Saturday 24th of May, I messaged Debbie on Instagram to wish her the best of luck on her wedding day. To which I received a beautiful selfie of the bride and her father, and a thank you!

The good old Scottish weather was not on the couple’s side on the 25th of May, therefore Deborah, her father and bridesmaids arrived outside Òran Mór in a traditional wedding car from Gold Choice Wedding Cars with plenty of umbrellas in hand. Dressed in a June Brides classic wedding dress, Deborah was accompanied by her father and four beautiful bridesmaids all in stunning matching dresses from David’s Bridal.

At the end of the aisle stood her groom Phil, accompanied by four groomsmen all in suits from Slater Menswear, awaiting the bride’s entrance. Marrying the couple was Deborah’s uncle John Welsh, who was delighted to be such a big part of his niece’s wedding day.

The couple booked harpist Sam McAdam to play their ceremony music, which sounded beautiful in the large Auditorium set up. At the bottom of the aisle stood a tall floral arch beautifully made by Emma at Betty Bluebell along with hurricane vases and petals lining the aisle. Emma also provided the bridal parties floral bouquets which stood out perfectly in the couple’s wedding pictures all day.

Deborah & Phil were pronounced the new Mr & Mrs Birschel and quickly took to the fizz to celebrate with their family and friends. With the rain the couple decided not to leave the Auditorium for pictures, so made use of the stunning stained glass windows and gallery view of the ceiling as a backdrop for their pictures.

Betty Bluebell is famous at Òran Mór for her large and very full, top table long and low which Debbie couldn’t resist for her top table décor. This made for stunning pictures during speeches and tied in beautifully with a variation of silver candelabras and tall floral centrepieces for the other tables. Each guest had a personalised place card and thank you sweetie bag from the bride and groom as a favour.

After dinner the couple took to the dancefloor to cut their stunning 5 tiered wedding cake made and delivered by Kimmy Cakes. The couple then had their first dance, to the sound of Vow award finalists The Trueloves, who are regular faces in Òran Mór. The rest of the wedding guests were welcomed onto the dancefloor to join the newlyweds and the couple partied until the early hours of the morning.

I couldn’t resist but send a message all the way from Cyrpus the day after the wedding to check how the rest of Debbie & Phil’s day had gone  – to which I received the best response…

Thank you so much to you and everyone, we had the best day of our lives! The team are absolutely flawless btw. The amount of comments from all of our guests about how amazing they were was crazy – they were fantastic!’
