Femi Da Rocha, owner at Brows By Femi emailed the team at Òran Mór looking for a venue for an imitate wedding ceremony and reception for her and her fiancé James. The couple were looking to get married early in 2019 and had seen pictures online of our Gallery and Private Dining Room.
Femi and James visited the venue a couple of weeks later and quickly fell in love with both our colourful Gallery and intimate Private Dining Room. It ticked all the boxes for the couple! After our meeting I contacted Femi to follow up on the show round and Femi requested that I book them in for Friday 1st February 2019 and finished her email with the following message.
‘We loved it and got even more excited to be married now we can picture how the day will be.’
At the end of March we hosted our Spring Wedding Fayre which Femi and her mother attended. This was the perfect opportunity for Femi to show her mother the venue as both the Gallery and Private Dining Room were set for a wedding. Femi’s mother equally loved the venue and couldn’t wait to help her daughter plan her big day. At the Wedding Fayre Femi met our recommended Makeup artists Mitchell and Macinnes who looked after Femi and her bridal party on the morning of the wedding, and Lisa from Lisa Isabella Hair Design. Shortly after Femi’s wedding I remember speaking to the girls at Mitchell and Macinnes about bride Femi and our shared obsession with her amazing long curly hair – major hair envy.
Femi arrived to our Bell Tower entrance on Great Western Road dressed in a stunning bespoke dress from Cocomelody, with her sisters and nieces who were beautifully dressed in purple.
Groom James and the groomsmen were also coordinated in purple kilts from Slaters. The aisle was lined with glass hurricane vases with matching purple flower wreaths, which all tied in beautifully with the purple up lighting for our Auditorium ceiling. The couple had clearly thought this through and it made for an absolutely stunning backdrop for their pictures.
After the ceremony Femi and James were joined by their friends and family for a glass of fizz and pre-dinner canapes in our Auditorium bar, before heading over to the Botanic Gardens for some pictures with photographer Alistair Campbell from Weans and Weddings Photography. The couple had also walked through the Botanics on their pre-wedding shoot with Alistair, and it’s lovely to now see these shots side by side.
The wedding party took to our Private Dining Room for speeches and a toast to the newlyweds before enjoying a three course wedding breakfast. The room was dressed beautifully with more purple theme place cards and simple candlelight, which really set the intimate setting for the rest of the day.
In the evening the couple welcomed more of their close friends for further celebrations; they took to the floor to cut their 3D Cakes wedding cake, shared their first dance and continued the party until early hours of the next morning.
Femi and James kindly sent on a selection of their favourite shots from the day, and my initial thought when I saw the photographs was just how beautiful the natural lighting was in February. I have said this before and I will say it again DO NOT RULE OUT A WINTER WEDDING! Alistair’s pictures really highlight this and showcase what a stunning backdrop an early February afternoon can be for a wedding.
After giving me permission to blog about her big day Femi kindly sent me the following message.
‘Hope you’re all good. I’ve been recommending you and Òran Mór as a wedding venue to anyone who will listen lol.’
I really appreciate hearing this as a happy Òran Mòr bride and groom really is the best walking talking advert for our venue.
On Femi’s website, she quotes ‘My favourite part about what I do, is being able to put a smile on someone’s face. It’s amazing what a difference a new set of brows can make.” I love that myself and the team at Òran Mór were able to help give Femi and James an amazing wedding day and give back the gift of putting a smile on her face!
