I’ll never forget the day that Ian and Sean walked into our main bar to meet me for their first wedding show round of the Auditorium. Both had massive smiles on their faces, from ear to ear, and this was the same every time I met the couple right up to the day of their wedding.
The grooms were keen to find a venue that could provide a full package for food, drink and interior décor. The couple weren’t looking to make a fuss over external ceremony décor or centrepieces, and were happy to let their venue look after the set up. The Auditorium in Òran Mór was the perfect venue for them, the stunning ceiling mural by Alasdair Gray creates a wedding space with character and warmth, and many couples feel they do not need to spend a lot on extra décor.
The couple stayed at the Hitlon Grosvenor across the road the evening before the wedding and met just before the wedding with their photographer Fraser for a couple of pre ceremony pictures. Ian and Sean then welcomed their 150 guests for a wedding ceremony at 3.00pm on Saturday the 2nd of June 2018. Òran Mór provided our long blue carpet for the aisle, our Brentwood blue chairs and a small table with linen for signing the register. Ian and Sean booked the fairy lights with Make Believe Events and felt that the room needed nothing more.
The couple took advantage of the lovely Scottish summer weather and went with photographer Fraser Cameron to Ashton Lane and the Glasgow Botanic Gardens for some natural shots while some of their wedding guests opted to relax with a glass of fizz in our beer garden.
Make Believe Events provided tall silver candelabras for each table centrepiece, which went perfectly with the grey and silver menu cards that Ian and Sean had designed with their very own unique wedding design by Nellie Grey. The design consisted of two male silhouettes in kilts, Kelvingrove Art Gallery, The Kibble Palace and of course Òran Mór. Nellie Grey also designed the couples invitations, table plans and thank you cards. To finish off the tables, each guest received some tablet and a box of Irish Lily O’Brien chocolates – which I never forget to pick up on my way home from a trip to Ireland – they are my absolute favourite!
The top table were situated on an oval shaped table as the boys were keen to have a large but sociable top table atmosphere and had approximately 18 guests. For speeches each of the speakers – including Ian, Ian’s dad, Sean’s dad and the best men – stood at our in-house lectern looking out to guests.
Ian and Sean opted for a simple white chocolate, three tiered Marks and Spencer’s cake which was topped with a simple black silhouette cake topper.
The cherry on top of the cake as such had to be the boys evening entertainment… The MacDonald Brothers who you may remember representing Scotland in the 2006 X Factor! Guests took to the dance floor immediately and danced the night away until the early hours of the morning.
The boys were just so keen to wine and dine their guests, and see them enjoy the day. It was clear to me from the minute I met the couple that they just wanted to have a massive celebration of their love for each other with their close friends and family.
From the minute I met Sean and Ian we immediately clicked and Ian kindly emailed the very day after the wedding to let me know how their day went and we still keep in touch to this day!
‘Thank you very much to you and to all the staff at Òran Mór for delivering a totally stunning wedding on Saturday. It was perfect, the venue looked better than I could have hoped it’s absolutely magnificent. The food was outstanding, every single dish cooked to perfection and superb. Really impressive standards while catering for so many people. Please pass on our gratitude to your very talented chefs. Fraser and all the staff were fantastic on the day.
Our guests are raving about our wedding, best they’ve ever been to and I can tell they mean it. We could not be happier with our day and really appreciate everything you did, at all times we felt it was stress free and easy to organise which is testament to how good you are at your job. Thank you.’
