Kate & Glen: A Whirlwind Winter Wedding

Saturday, June 22nd, 2019

Kate Dunn got in contact with me in August last year enquiring about availability for our Gallery & Private Dining Room. Kate and fiancé Glen were looking to have an intimate wedding ceremony and wedding breakfast in Òran Mór for around 17 guests in the following January. The couple were then looking to exclusively hire our Auditorium and were planning on inviting an additional 200 guests to celebrate their marriage with them on the same day. A week after enquiring Kate and Glen visited the venue and fell in love with it instantly. The date was set and the couple were booked in to marry on Saturday 19th of January 2019 – just 6 months after their initial visit.

The countdown was on and the planning well underway and Kate and her mother made sure to attend our October wedding fayre. Our in house wedding fayres are a great opportunity for our brides and grooms to visit the venue again, and to pick up ideas for their big day. At this particular fayre Kate’s mother met Rachel Glue, from Glu It décor who had dressed the Bell Tower entrance beautifully for the event. Rachel and I met in the summer of 2018 where she had looked after the décor for her friends Roz and Kev’s wedding in our Auditorium. Rachel did such an amazing job that I invited her to attend our wedding fayre as her style was completely unique and I knew it would be of interest to our other Òran Mór couples. Kate and her mother were keen to book the exact same décor for Kate and Glen’s wedding and decided to ask Rachel to also look after the décor in the Gallery where the couple would marry.

Kate arrived at our Bell Tower Entrance with a stunning floral bouquet from West End florist Roots and Fruits, after a morning of pampering from makeup artist IDoMakeUp By Geo Kane and hair stylist Laura Scarff Hair Design. Kate and Glen tied the knot at 2.30pm in our Gallery with celebrant Pamela Clocherty and their close family and friends.

The couple then took to the famous Ashton Lane accompanied by photographer Martin McLellan and videographer Colin from Capercaillie Films, for some one on one time before joining their wedding guests in our Private Dining Room for a glass of fizz, a short toast and their wedding breakfast.

Our Private Dining Room was dressed simply with our in house candelabras in the centre of our board room table. Kate had ordered gold charger plates for each guest’s place setting from Make Believe Events, which matched perfectly with the gold handmade place settings. Kate had made each guest a gold personalised scrabble place setting and the day before her wedding even turned up to the venue to present me with my very own – which literally made my day that she had thought of me. I should add that this has sat on my desk ever since!

Kate and Glen’s evening guests were welcomed into the Auditorium at 5.00pm to the beautiful sounds of Ginny and The Tonic. Guests were offered a glass of fizz on arrival and a selection of bowl food circulated the room including Haggis Neaps & Tatties, Vegetarian curry and popular Fish n Chip cones. A corner of the room was kept a side for Rachel Holmes who had set up a vintage cake table including some doughnuts from the famous Tantrum Doughnuts.

After an hour or so of nibbles and fizz, Kate’s dad took to the stage to kick start the speeches as the newlyweds sat close by. Glen and his best man then completed the toasts for the day, before the couple took to the dancefloor to cut their cake. Brother Man then took to the stage for the couple’s first dance and finally got the party started.

Kate and Glen did an exceptional job at pulling together a wedding day with so much thought and detail in only 6 months and were an absolute pleasure to work with. The couple were looking for a wedding day with a different format from what we are used to in the venue, which we loved! As a venue we are very flexible and enjoy working with couples to make their wedding day as unique as possible for them, so for me it was great fun working with Kate and Glen in the short time that I did.

I heard from the new Mrs Kate Dunn a couple of weeks prior to this blog and was delighted to hear that they are welcoming a fur baby in to the family in form of puppy Luna, a Black Miniature Schnauzer. Congrats again to the new Mr & Mrs Dunn on your puppy news and thank you for letting me blog about your big day.
