Maggie & John

Thursday, February 17th, 2022

Where can I start with Maggie and John’s story? It was a complete covid roller-coaster with two wedding venues and several wedding dates, this future Mr & Mrs Forsyth were certainly sent on a bumpy wedding planning journey.

In the midst of lockdown and ever changing covid restrictions Maggie Connor got in contact to enquire about our Gallery and Private Dining Room for an intimate wedding.  Maggie and John had originally planned a large wedding at another venue but with the constant uncertainty that 2022 & 2021 brought to our lives, they decided to scale their day down and get married as soon as possible with their nearest and dearest.

The couple provisionally booked their wedding with us for March 2021, and with every update we caught up on Zoom or on the phone to discuss what the Government restrictions meant for their wedding day. With only weeks to go to their March date and their wedding plans looking less and less likely, the couple decided to move their date again to May 2021 and we kept our fingers crossed that this would be the fourth and FINAL date for Maggie & John.

As beer gardens in Glasgow opened and wedding restrictions eased to allow a maximum of 20 guests, Maggie & John’s wedding was able to go ahead as planned.

On Saturday 15th May 2021, John and his family arrived at Òran Mór for their first alcoholic beverage of the year in our Byres Road beer garden, closely followed by his beautiful bride Maggie who was escorted by her nephew, and photographer Lauren Stirling.

Our Gallery was set with curved seating for 17 guests and finished off with simple floral arrangements and candles provided by Rose ‘n’ Thyme. The couple booked the popular ‘Aye Do’ sign and copper frame for the end of their aisle, supplied by décor specialists Make Believe Events.

The restrictions were tight on masks, distancing and curfews but Maggie & John were finally pronounced as Mr & Mrs Forsyth and they could not be happier!

To celebrate the couple joined their guests for a glass or fizz and pictures outside Òran Mór, before heading off round the West End with photographer Lauren Stirling.

Maggie, John and their closest family and friends took comfort in our cosy private dining room for speeches, their wedding breakfast, cake cutting and first dance.

The Forsyth’s did an exceptional job of staying calm and riding the covid wave throughout their wedding journey. After planning a large celebration with over 100 guests, to downscaling to 15 guests in total, the couple have reassured me they have no regrets and had the best day of their lives.

‘We honestly can’t thank you all enough everything was perfect, we had the most amazing day, the whole family did. Don’t regret one thing about the way we had our wedding, just felt so relaxed and we got to properly enjoy the day. Everything was beautiful!’
