Megan Rowan and Mark Miller first got in contact back in 2018 looking for a unique city wedding venue for their 2019 wedding. The couple were specific on which date they were looking for as the first weekend in September is normally a scorcher of a weekend, therefore perfect for a good old Glasgow wedding. However, the couple explained that they didn’t have their heart set on the good weather as they personally never had any luck when throwing garden parties and always ended up having bad weather. Òran Mór suited the couple perfectly as there are plenty of gorgeous backdrops for pictures in the event of a rainy day, but also the option of the Botanic Gardens across the road if their luck was in on their big day.
Megan and Mark booked Saturday 7th September 2019 and organised bride Megan didn’t waste any time kickstarting the planning! The first point of contact for Megan was our recommended décor supplier Make Believe Events where she booked their long ivory aisle runner, ivory chair pads for over our gold Brentwoods, their stunning large Cherry blossom trees for the end of the aisle, paper lanterns and the Òran Mór fairy light package. These items completely transformed the Auditorium into the couples dream ceremony space and both were delighted with the set up on the day. After a house move just one week before the wedding – and we all know how stressful that can be – it was finally the day that Megan and Mark had been waiting for.
On the 7th of September the sun was shining brighter than it had in weeks and at 1.00pm Mark and his four groomsmen all dressed in matching kilts from McCalls of Glasgow arrived at the venue to meet with humanist Martin Turner from Humanist Ceremonies. The room was set and ready to welcome guests at 1.30pm. The couples chosen florist Lavender Blue had lined the aisle with vases, candles and flowers which set the lighting in the space perfectly. At 2.00pm Megan and her four bridesmaids arrived at the bottom of our Bell tower entrance with stunning matching bouquets also from the team at Lavender Blue which complimented their gorgeous dusky pink dresses from TFNC Asos beautifully. The soon to be Mrs Miller was dressed in a stunning dress from Glasgow’s Eleganza and with her dad tightly linked round her arm in a kilt also from McCalls of Glasgow and mother in a stunning long blue dress from the TK Maxx Designer Rage. To the gorgeous sounds of Capella String Quartet Megan finally was ready to walk down her perfectly planned aisle to marry her best friend and soul mate Mark.
The couple were finally pronounced the new Mr & Mrs Miller and couldn’t wait to celebrate with their friends and family. But as the couples luck had come in with the sunshine, they first made sure to a stroll to the gardens with their bridal party and photographer John Clark.
By the time the couple returned to the Auditorium it was ready and set for dinner service. The couple had chosen to position their long top table in front of the arches in the Auditorium and the table was topped with stunning long and low flowers matching the bride and bridesmaids’ bouquets. In front of the top table were 12 6ft round tables, each with one of our inhouse silver candelabras draped with a simple piece of ivy to finish off the décor. Each guest had a personalised place card with a tiny illustration of the newlyweds by Hayley at Angelkin Art.
The new Mr & Mrs Miller were piped into the room by piper Jonathan Graham followed by some speeches from Megan’s Dad, groom Mark and his trusted groomsmen.
After dinner the couple went back out with photographer John to the West End hot spot that is Ashton Lane for some more outdoor pictures. You cannot expect to go a walk down Ashton lane on a super sunny day and not be the centre of attention! The couple were clapped and cheered for as they made their way down the rickety cobbles and loved every moment.
After a quick turn around and with some more evening guests arriving the couple took to the dancefloor to cut their stunning three tiered Jappa Cakes wedding cake, followed by their first dance as Mr & Mrs. It was then finally time for our inhouse DJ Mark Robb to get the party started. Not only did Megan’s feedback on the evening entertainment reassure us that they had the biggest party of their life, but I think you’d agree that John Clark’s pictures of the evening also stand in good stead as evidence of a real good party! Megan and Mark were keen to mix things up a bit in the evening with some surprise entertainment from the famous Kilted Sax who really was a hit on the evening with all of their guests.
Megan and Mark kindly joined me on one of our Facebook Live wedding workshops in the 2020 lockdown where they were able to share some hints and tips on their wedding planning experience. I am so grateful to the Millers for their continued support after their wedding. Excitingly towards the end of 2020 they announced that they are welcoming a new member into the family. The couple are expecting a beautiful baby boy in June this year. Congratulations again guys! I cannot wait to meet the little man.
