Aussie girl Melanie got in contact with me in the summer of 2017, emailing from Aberdeen where her and fiancé Ian lived. They were looking for a super intimate wedding ceremony and reception for their nearest and dearest in July 2019. One of the first things that Melanie mentioned was that it was important to her and Ian that their wedding date suited their honeymoon plans… they were going to San Diego Comic-Con – something they had dreamt of for twenty years (total geeks) their words not mine!
The couple were impressed by our photographs online and were keen to provisionally hold Sunday 14th of July 2019 for an intimate ceremony in our Gallery, followed by an evening of fine dining and drinks in our Private Dining Room. The couple then scheduled a visit to Glasgow to see Òran Mór in person that October. When they arrived, the couple assured me that the venue was beautiful and exactly what they were looking for.
With the couple living in Aberdeen they missed the Òran Mór wedding fayre, which I know Melanie would have been all over; she is always so supportive of Òran Mór’s in-house events and award campaigns, even from 150 miles away.
Melanie and I emailed back and forth for a year discussing décor, table settings and the music for the ceremony before meeting in May 2019 to finalise the details and timings for the day. The couple opted for a 2pm ceremony followed by a drinks reception in our Auditorium bar, and finally moving to our Private Dining Room around 4.30pm for speeches and dinner.
In March 2019 I found myself having to reach out to Melanie and Ian to ask that we alter the plans for their drinks reception. A client who was due to marry earlier in March, had ended up seriously unwell and in hospital on the week of their wedding and their wedding date therefore had to be rescheduled for later in the year. Finding a new date for this couple was complicated with the groom working away most of the year and the bride’s family traveling to Scotland for the wedding. My email to Melanie and Ian was to ask if we could move their drinks reception to Òran Mór’s Private Dining Room rather than the Auditorium bar, allowing our other clients to use the Auditorium space that day for their rescheduled wedding.
Melanie and Ian were extremely understanding of the situation and agreed to help by altering the location of their drinks reception, which is something that myself and our other client will always be grateful for.
On Sunday 14th July 2019 Melanie arrived at our Bell Tower Entrance with best friend Paul at 2pm and after years of planning was ready to become Ian’s wife.
The couple married in our Gallery with their close friends and family, and photographers Canvas and Peach were there to capture every moment. An emotional Ian was completely blown away by how beautiful his wife to be looked and photographers Heather and Cheryl made sure to not miss this tear jerking moment.
On such a beautiful sunny summer day the couple and all of their wedding guests headed over to the Glasgow Botanic Gardens for some group shots before making their way back to Òran Mór’s Private Dining Room for a glass of fizz.
Although the couple had agreed to move their drinks reception location, they were still able to make use of our Auditorium for their couple shots until 3.30pm that day. The girls from Canvas and Peach did an exceptional job at utilising the stunning backdrops that our Auditorium has to offer, before heading back to the Private Dining Room to capture the rest of the couple’s celebrations.
In the Private Dining Room our boardroom table was beautifully dressed with long and low flowers from Emma Lee Florist. Each guest had a carved wooden name at their place setting accompanied by a personalised favour. Melanie had discussed with me months before the wedding her plans to have a table with homemade cakes and bakes for guests to nibble on throughout the day and evening. I was completely blown away by the amount of stunningly baked and packaged cakes and sweet treats that Melanie had personally baked.
The couple joined their guests in the Private Dining Room for some speeches, followed by a 3 course wedding breakfast and plenty of drinks until the early hours the next day.
I was delighted to receive an email after the newlyweds returned from their honeymoon:
“Our wedding day was fab; absolutely no complaints at all. It was everything we could have hoped it would be and the service was excellent. Almost all of our guests commented that it was the best ‘wedding food’ they had ever experienced themselves.”
I also received a lovely card from Melanie with the loveliest hand written message in it thanking me for the help and support on the lead up to their wedding day accompanied by some home baked tablet – delicious! The couple kindly agreed to be part of an online blog put together by the Scottish Wedding Magazine where Melanie again was extremely complimentary of my help and what the team at Òran Mór have to offer.
Thanks Melanie for your love and continued support!
