For many newly engaged couples, finding the perfect wedding venue and date that fits, can be tricky. Some couples are required to give guests, who may be travelling, plenty of notice as well, making 2 years in advance a completely normal time to book your wedding. In fact 54% percent of couples will be engaged for 1 to 2 years. Most couples will give themselves at least a year to plan and save for their big day, especially if they have a guest list of 100+ to consider and pay for (yikes!)
“Venue hunting was our biggest struggle, partly because we live down south but also because we wanted an alternative, blank canvas venue and choice seemed limited. Once we viewed Òran Mór we were an instant yes, and decided on a young, fun, city wedding”- Rachael
What if you already had your perfect wedding venue, a date in the diary but had to rethink the date completely?
I first met Rachael and Graham at their menu tasting early in 2017, as they had booked their wedding with my colleague before I started. The couple along with Rachael’s mother were blown away by the food at the tasting, but very quickly into our meeting it was clear that the couple needed to have a difficult conversation with me. Rachael & Graham wanted to explore their options on delaying their wedding day by approximately 1 year. The bride’s mother went on to explain that bride Rachael had been unwell – and their wedding was only a matter of months away.
After discussing all of the couple’s options a new date was set for May 2018, giving the couple a further year to concentrate on getting bride Rachael back to full health.
In March 2018 we met again and it was clear to me almost immediately that Rachael was looking and feeling great. The girl in front of me was sparkling and completely excited about her plans for her up and coming wedding.
The couple made an extremely brave decision delaying their wedding by a whole year. This could have jeopardised their bookings with suppliers, resulted in the loss of deposits and more importantly affected the attendance of their wedding guests. However, to this family the full health and happiness of their bride was more important. I believe that this was a great decision made by the couple as in the end Rachael and Graham had the most wonderful day, with smiles on their faces from start to finish which is showcased throughout their stunning wedding photography by Lisa Devine.
Wedding Planner’s Advice:
For anyone who is considering a round top table, but is concerned about how this will look for speeches, please take a look at these pictures. Not only did Lisa Devine capture these very emotional but happy speeches perfectly, but the choice of going for a round top table fully complimented the overall photography on the day.
“Òran Mór was a dream and everyone had a magical evening, many guests commented on what a cracking venue we picked. Pauline is something else, always with a smile on her face and nothing is ever too much trouble.”- Rachael
To conclude… there is a lot of pressure on couples to choose their perfect wedding date to suit their suppliers and guests. Then once you find the venue and suppliers that are available for your wedding date they will likely require a deposit to secure your booking. This is simply business and in such a competitive and booming industry, it is just how it works. However, all of your suppliers are humans too, we have and will all come across our own hardships in life – life will throw us all curve balls.
So my point is… don’t be scared to speak up and ask the question. Your wedding day is a massively important day in your life and make sure it is as perfect as it can be, like Rachael and Graham’s was.
“Pauline and Òran Mór handled our wedding postponement with compassion and care, minimising our stresses during a very difficult time. We will forever pop into Òran Mór for drinks or a meal and remember what a special day we shared there.”
Thanks to Rachael and Graham for allowing me to blog about your wedding journey. Your story really stood out to me and it is one that I will always remember.
